Vice President of Philanthropy & Communications


Chrissie Howorth joined VNA in 2012 as Associate Vice President of Development, and was promoted to Vice President of Philanthropy and Business Relations in 2014 and later to Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications. Chrissie is responsible for donor engagement and stewardship, capital and major gift development, planned giving activities and Federal, State and Foundation grant writing and development activities. Chrissie also leads VNA Health Care’s Marketing, Communications and Community Outreach programs. She oversees planning, budgeting, and implementing the annual work plans related to her areas of responsibility and also identifies and pursues opportunities to expand or create new VNA services and programs, and builds community relationships that help sustain VNA.

Prior to joining VNA, Chrissie was Education Site Manager for Mayslake Peabody Estate, an educational and cultural facility listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mayslake is owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. In this role, Chrissie was responsible for developing and implementing a master plan for the facility and developing and managing the fundraising program to support the restoration and site operations. She provided oversight at Mayslake for multiple historic restoration projects and $5.5m of infrastructure improvements that were carried out at the Estate during her tenure.

Chrissie served as Chair of the non-profit Foundation, Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County for four years and as President of the West Suburban Philanthropic Network for a two-year term. She also served as Vice-President of the Oak Brook Historical Society and Co-Chair of the Oak Brook Historic Preservation Fund Committee. Chrissie currently serves on the Community Leadership Council of the DuPage Federation for Healthcare Reform.

Chrissie is a graduate of the Kent and Canterbury School of Nursing in England. She also holds a Certificate in Therapeutic Child Care from the University of Greenwich, England and a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the Fund Raising School at Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis. Chrissie holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive accreditation from CFRE International.
