Getting an influenza vaccination, also known as a flu shot, is important as it can keep people from getting sick with the flu and can reduce the severity of illness if you do get the flu. Vaccination reduces the chance of doctors’ visits, missed work and school due to the flu, and flu-related hospitalizations and death. Flu vaccinations are also a valuable preventive tool for those who have chronic health conditions. According to the CDC, people vaccinated against flu have a lower rate of cardiac events and a reduced risk of a flu-related worsening of chronic lung disease. Being vaccinated also protects the people around you who are more vulnerable to serious illness including infants, young children, older people, and those who are immunocompromised.
With all this in mind, VNA Health Care continues to lead the way in providing convenient and accessible public health services to the community. In addition to VNA’s ongoing COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Community Clinics, VNA is now also promoting vaccination against influenza. Flu vaccinations are available at VNA Health Centers in Aurora, Bensenville, Bolingbrook, Carol Stream, Elgin, Joliet, and Romeoville for everyone aged 6 months and older. Flu shots are also being delivered in partnership with various community organizations, local businesses, low-income housing authorities, homeless shelters, and nursing homes and these are promoted on the VNA Facebook page. Several VNA locations, Aurora – Highland Avenue, Elgin – Villa Street, and Romeoville, will also offer free Drive-Through Flu Shot clinics. No appointment is necessary when going to a Drive-Through Clinic where flu vaccination is available for individuals aged 4 and above. At clinic and drive-through locations, individuals aged 12 + can get their COVID-19 vaccination at the same time if they have not yet received it.
